Terms and Conditions

Effective 2026-08-11 · v0.5

Please read these Terms and Conditions ("Terms") carefully before using Sovra. By creating an account or using the Service in any way, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not access or use the Service.

IMPORTANT — NOT FOR FCRA PURPOSES: Sovra is a consumer-facing people-search platform for personal use only. Sovra is NOT a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq.) ("FCRA"). Information available through Sovra may NOT be used to determine any individual's eligibility for employment, housing, credit, insurance, or any other purpose regulated by the FCRA. Such use is strictly prohibited and constitutes a material breach of these Terms. The Services are intended for use within the United States only and are not directed at individuals located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland. If you are located outside the United States, please do not use the Services.

1. Eligibility and Account Registration

1.1 Age and Legal Capacity

You must be at least 18 years of age and have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract under the laws of your jurisdiction to create an account or use the Service. By using Sovra, you represent and warrant that you meet these requirements. We actively monitor for underage use and will suspend or terminate any account we reasonably believe belongs to a minor.

1.2 Account Creation

To access certain features of the Service, you must register an account by providing accurate, complete, and current information, including your full legal name and a valid email address. You agree to keep your account information accurate and current at all times. Inaccurate or incomplete information may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account.

1.3 Account Security

You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to:

  • Use a strong, unique password and not share it with any third party;
  • Notify Sovra immediately at privacy@sovra.ai upon becoming aware of any unauthorized access to your account;
  • Log out of your account at the end of each session on shared or public devices.

Sovra will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to comply with these obligations.

1.4 One Account Per User

You may only maintain one Sovra account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent a suspension, access the Service after termination, or for any other purpose is prohibited and may result in permanent removal from the Service.

2. The Sovra Service — What It Is and What It Is Not

2.1 Description of the Service

Sovra is a consumer-facing people-search platform that aggregates publicly available information from third-party sources to generate informational profiles about individuals. The Service is designed to help individual consumers make informed personal decisions — for example, verifying the identity of a person met online, researching a potential date, or locating a lost family member.

2.2 Permitted Uses

You may use the Service solely for personal, non-commercial purposes, including:

  • Verifying the identity or contact information of an individual for your own personal safety;
  • Researching individuals with whom you have or are considering a personal relationship (e.g., reconnecting with a lost contact, researching a babysitter or potential romantic partner);
  • Locating contact information for individuals for personal, non-commercial communication;
  • Self-research — searching for your own profile to understand what information is publicly available about you.

2.3 Prohibited Uses

The following uses are strictly prohibited and constitute a material breach of these Terms, which may result in immediate account termination, legal action, and referral to applicable regulatory authorities. You may NOT use the Service:

  • For any purpose regulated by the FCRA, including determining any individual's eligibility for employment, housing, credit, insurance, or any governmental benefit or license;
  • To screen tenants, employees, contractors, or job applicants on behalf of any business or organization;
  • To compile, sell, rent, or distribute information about third parties to any other person or entity;
  • To stalk, harass, threaten, intimidate, or harm any individual or group;
  • To discriminate against any person on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other protected characteristic;
  • To locate the home address or personal contact information of any law enforcement officer, judicial officer, prosecutor, or their immediate household family members under Daniel's Law or any equivalent state law;
  • To contact individuals for commercial solicitation, telemarketing, or spam;
  • To reverse engineer, scrape, copy, republish, or create derivative works from any information obtained through the Service;
  • To access the Service using automated tools, bots, crawlers, or scrapers without express written permission;
  • To build, train, fine-tune, or improve any artificial intelligence or machine learning system using information obtained through the Service;
  • To resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit access to the Service or any information obtained through it;
  • For any other purpose that is illegal, tortious, or harmful under applicable law.

3. Nature and Accuracy of Information

3.1 Third-Party Sources

The information made available through the Service is derived from third-party data licensors, public records databases, and other commercially available sources. Sovra does not generate, originate, or independently verify the information in its profiles. The presence of information about an individual on Sovra does not constitute any representation by Sovra regarding the accuracy, completeness, or currency of that information.

3.2 No Accuracy Guarantee

SOVRA MAKES NO REPRESENTATION OR WARRANTY THAT THE INFORMATION AVAILABLE THROUGH THE SERVICE IS ACCURATE, COMPLETE, CURRENT, OR RELIABLE. Records may be outdated, incomplete, misattributed, or reflect historical data that no longer applies to the individual. You should not make any significant decision—personal, financial, legal, or otherwise—based solely on information obtained through the Service without independent verification.

3.3 No Criminal Record Guarantee

The absence of criminal records, arrest records, or other derogatory information in a Sovra profile does not mean that such records do not exist. Not all criminal records are publicly available in all jurisdictions, and our databases may not reflect the most current or complete information. Sovra profiles must never be treated as definitive background checks for any purpose.

3.4 No Endorsement

Search results and profile information do not constitute Sovra's endorsement, verification, or approval of any individual. Sovra takes no position on the character, reputation, or trustworthiness of any person appearing in search results.

3.5 Inaccuracy Disputes

If you believe that your own profile on Sovra contains inaccurate information, you may submit a correction or suppression request by emailing privacy@sovra.ai. We will review your request and, where feasible, correct or remove inaccurate information within 45 days. We cannot correct or remove information that remains accurate and lawfully obtained. Correction requests are subject to the identity verification requirements described in our Privacy Policy.

3A. Third-Party Licensed Data

3A.1 Data Licensor Restrictions

Certain information available through the Service is obtained under license from third-party data licensors who impose restrictions on its use. By using the Service, you agree to comply with all such restrictions as set forth in this Section, in addition to the restrictions in Sections 2.3 and 6.2 of these Terms.

3A.2 Additional Restrictions on Licensed Data

The following restrictions apply to all information obtained through the Service, regardless of whether your intended use would otherwise be permitted under Section 2.2. These restrictions are imposed by Sovra's third-party data licensors and are binding on all users of the Service. You may not use any information obtained through the Service to:

  • Compile, enhance, verify, supplement, or contribute to any mailing list, directory, classified advertising, or other compilation of information that is sold, rented, published, or otherwise provided to a third party;
  • Engage in or facilitate digital display advertising, including uploading any information obtained through the Service to any data management platform, demand-side platform, or advertising exchange;
  • Reference the source of any individual's name, address, or other information in any communication, solicitation, or marketing material;
  • Create, distribute, or make available any dataset, database, or data product derived in whole or in part from information obtained through the Service; or
  • Use any telephone number obtained through the Service in the body of a direct mail piece, telemarketing script, or other marketing communication.

3A.3 Data Security

You agree to take reasonable measures to prevent unauthorized access to, copying of, or use of any information obtained through the Service. You will limit access to such information to authorized individuals who have a legitimate need for access consistent with these Terms, and you will implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect such information from unauthorized disclosure.

3A.4 Acknowledgment of Third-Party Rights

You acknowledge that certain information available through the Service is proprietary to Sovra's third-party data licensors. You further acknowledge that any unauthorized use of such information may cause irreparable harm to Sovra and its data licensors for which monetary damages may be inadequate, and that Sovra and its data licensors shall be entitled to seek injunctive relief in the event of a violation of this Section. Sovra's third-party data licensors are intended third-party beneficiaries of this Section 3A and are entitled to enforce its terms directly.

3A.5 Deletion Upon Termination

Upon termination or expiration of your account for any reason, you agree to promptly delete all information obtained through the Service from your devices and any other storage media, and to use reasonable efforts to ensure that any copies in your possession or control are destroyed.

3A.6 Compliance with Applicable Law

You acknowledge that federal, state, and local laws may apply to your use of information obtained through the Service, including laws governing direct marketing, telemarketing, data privacy, and consumer protection. Sovra and its data licensors have no obligation to advise you of these laws. You are solely responsible for consulting with legal counsel regarding your compliance obligations before using any information obtained through the Service for any purpose.

4. Sovra AI Assistant — Terms of Use

4.1 What the Sovra AI Assistant Is

Sovra makes available an AI-powered chatbot assistant (the "AI Assistant") to help users navigate the Service, ask questions about people-search results, and receive plain-language explanations of publicly available information. The AI Assistant is powered by a large language model (LLM) and generates responses based on patterns in training data, information you provide in the conversation, and data available through the Sovra platform.

4.2 Nature of AI-Generated Outputs

Outputs generated by the AI Assistant ("Outputs") are produced by an automated system and are not reviewed by a human before being delivered to you. You acknowledge and agree that:

  • Outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or misleading, even when they appear authoritative or confident;
  • The AI Assistant may generate information about real people that is incorrect, hallucinated, or inapplicable to the specific individual you are researching;
  • Outputs do not constitute legal, financial, medical, employment, or any other form of professional advice;
  • Outputs are not a substitute for independent research or professional consultation;
  • The AI Assistant has no ability to access information outside of what Sovra's platform provides and its training data, and it does not have real-time knowledge of current events.

4.3 Prohibited Uses of the AI Assistant

In addition to the general prohibited uses in Section 2.3, you may not use the AI Assistant:

  • To generate, compile, or organize information about individuals for any FCRA-regulated purpose, including employment screening, tenant screening, or credit decisions;
  • To solicit or obtain information that you intend to use to harm, harass, stalk, or surveil any individual;
  • To attempt to extract, reconstruct, or infer any underlying training data, model weights, or proprietary Sovra data from the AI Assistant's Outputs;
  • To generate content that is defamatory, fraudulent, discriminatory, or that falsely attributes statements or conduct to any real person;
  • To reverse engineer, replicate, or create a competing product using interactions with the AI Assistant;
  • To submit prompts designed to circumvent the AI Assistant's safety filters, content moderation systems, or these Terms (so-called "jailbreaking");
  • To input any sensitive personal information — including Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, or medical information — about yourself or others into the AI Assistant.

4.4 Accuracy Disclaimer for AI Outputs

THE AI ASSISTANT IS AN EXPERIMENTAL FEATURE. SOVRA MAKES NO REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES REGARDING THE ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, OR RELIABILITY OF ANY OUTPUT GENERATED BY THE AI ASSISTANT. AI-GENERATED OUTPUTS MAY CONTAIN ERRORS, OMISSIONS, OR FABRICATIONS. SOVRA EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL LIABILITY FOR ANY RELIANCE YOU PLACE ON AI-GENERATED OUTPUTS. YOU ASSUME FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR HOW YOU USE ANY OUTPUT FROM THE AI ASSISTANT.

4.5 No Professional Advice

Nothing generated by the AI Assistant constitutes legal, financial, medical, psychological, employment, or any other form of licensed professional advice. The AI Assistant is not a licensed attorney, financial advisor, therapist, or any other regulated professional. If you need professional advice, please consult a qualified licensed professional. Sovra expressly disclaims any liability arising from your reliance on AI Assistant Outputs as a substitute for professional advice.

4.6 Content Moderation and Safety

The AI Assistant is designed to decline requests that violate these Terms or that could facilitate harm to individuals. Sovra reserves the right to monitor, log, and review AI Assistant conversations to improve the Service, ensure compliance with these Terms, investigate potential violations, and comply with applicable law. By using the AI Assistant, you consent to such monitoring. Conversations may be used by Sovra to improve its AI systems, subject to our Privacy Policy. You should not share sensitive or confidential information in AI Assistant conversations.

4.7 Your Inputs

You are solely responsible for all prompts, queries, and information you submit to the AI Assistant ("Inputs"). You represent and warrant that your Inputs do not violate any applicable law or third party's rights. To the extent permitted by applicable law, you grant Sovra a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use your Inputs to operate, maintain, and improve the AI Assistant and the Service. Sovra will handle your Inputs in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

4.8 Availability and Changes

The AI Assistant is provided as a convenience feature and may be modified, suspended, or discontinued at any time without notice. Sovra makes no commitment regarding the continued availability of the AI Assistant or any particular capability of the AI Assistant.

5. Privacy, Data Rights, and Consumer Requests

5.1 Privacy Policy

Your use of the Service is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the Service, you consent to the collection, use, and sharing of your information as described in our Privacy Policy. Please review it carefully before using the Service.

5.2 California Consumer Rights

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.100 et seq.) ("CCPA/CPRA"), including the right to know what personal information we collect about you, the right to request deletion of your personal information, the right to correct inaccurate personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. Once Sovra is registered under the California Delete Act, deletion requests submitted through the CCPA's Delete Request and Opt-Out Platform (DROP) will be processed as required by law. Until then, California residents may submit requests directly via email at privacy@sovra.ai.

5.3 Data Broker Registration

Sovra is registered as a data broker with the state of Texas under the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act (Tex. Bus. & Com. Code Ann. Ch. 509/510). The Texas Secretary of State Data Broker Registry is available at sos.texas.gov.

5.4 Do Not Sell

You may opt out of the sale of your personal data by visiting our opt-out site or by contacting privacy@sovra.ai. We will process your opt-out within 45 days and will provide confirmation of processing.

5.5 Minor Protection

Sovra does not knowingly collect, display, or distribute personal information about individuals under the age of 18. If you believe a profile on Sovra contains information about a minor, please contact us immediately at privacy@sovra.ai. We will investigate and remove any such information promptly.

6. Intellectual Property

6.1 Sovra's Intellectual Property

The Service, including all underlying software, algorithms, databases, trademarks, logos, trade names, designs, graphics, text, and all other content made available by Sovra (collectively, "Sovra Content"), is owned by or licensed to Sovra and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service solely in accordance with these Terms. No other license is granted, express or implied.

6.2 Restrictions

Except as expressly permitted by these Terms, you may not:

  • Copy, reproduce, distribute, transmit, or display any portion of the Service or Sovra Content;

  • Use any Sovra trademark, trade name, or service mark without prior written consent;
  • Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices from the Service.

6.3 User-Submitted Content

If you submit any content, feedback, or other materials to Sovra ("User-Submitted Content"), you grant Sovra a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable license to use, reproduce, modify, and distribute such User-Submitted Content for the purpose of operating and improving the Service. You represent and warrant that you have all rights necessary to grant this license and that your User-Submitted Content does not infringe any third party's rights.

6.4 DMCA Copyright Policy

If you believe that any content on the Service infringes your copyright, please send a written notice to legal@sovra.ai including: (i) identification of the copyrighted work; (ii) identification of the allegedly infringing material and its location; (iii) your contact information; (iv) a good faith belief statement; and (v) a statement under penalty of perjury that the information is accurate and you are authorized to act. We will respond to valid notices in accordance with 17 U.S.C. § 512.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE SERVICE, ALL INFORMATION ACCESSIBLE THROUGH THE SERVICE, ALL AI ASSISTANT OUTPUTS, AND ALL RELATED SERVICES ARE PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, TITLE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

SOVRA DOES NOT WARRANT THAT: (A) THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS OR BE AVAILABLE AT ANY PARTICULAR TIME; (B) ANY ERRORS OR DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED; (C) THE SERVICE IS FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS; (D) THE RESULTS OF USING THE SERVICE WILL BE ACCURATE OR RELIABLE; OR (E) AI ASSISTANT OUTPUTS WILL BE FREE OF INACCURACIES, HALLUCINATIONS, OR OMISSIONS.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties. If you reside in such a jurisdiction, some of the above exclusions may not apply to you.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL SOVRA, ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, LICENSORS, OR SERVICE PROVIDERS BE LIABLE TO YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION DAMAGES FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, LOSS OF GOODWILL, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR ANY DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR RELIANCE ON AI ASSISTANT OUTPUTS, REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY AND EVEN IF SOVRA HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

SOVRA'S TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF: (A) THE TOTAL AMOUNTS YOU PAID TO SOVRA IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM; OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100.00).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the limitation of liability for certain types of damages, so the above limitation may not apply to you.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Sovra, its affiliates, its third-party data licensors, and each of their respective officers, directors, employees, agents, and service providers from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, losses, costs, and fees (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to:

  • Your access to or use of the Service in violation of these Terms;
  • Your violation of any applicable law, including the FCRA, Daniel's Law, or any applicable state privacy law;
  • Your use of AI Assistant Outputs in a manner that causes harm to yourself or any third party;
  • Your violation of the third-party licensed data restrictions set forth in Section 3A;
  • Any content or information you provide to Sovra or to the AI Assistant that infringes any third party's rights;
  • Any unauthorized use of another person's identity or information in connection with the Service;
  • Your breach of any representation or warranty made in these Terms.

10. Dispute Resolution — Mandatory Arbitration and Class Action Waiver

IMPORTANT: This section significantly affects your legal rights. It requires individual arbitration of disputes and waives your right to a jury trial and to participate in class action litigation. Please read it carefully.

10.1 Informal Resolution

Before initiating any formal dispute, you agree to first contact Sovra at legal@sovra.ai describing the nature of your concern. Sovra will use good-faith efforts to resolve the concern informally within 30 days. You agree to participate in this process in good faith before initiating arbitration.

10.2 Binding Arbitration

If informal resolution is unsuccessful, all disputes, claims, or controversies arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service ("Disputes") will be resolved exclusively through final and binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") under its Consumer Arbitration Rules (available at www.adr.org). The arbitration may be conducted via video conference at your election. The arbitrator's award will be final and binding and may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction.

10.3 Class Action Waiver

YOU AND SOVRA AGREE THAT EACH MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN YOUR OR ITS INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY, AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims or preside over any form of class or representative proceeding.

10.4 Opt-Out Right

You may opt out of the arbitration agreement by sending written notice to legal@sovra.ai within 30 days of first creating your account or within 30 days of any material update to this arbitration clause. Your notice must include your name, email address, and a clear statement that you are opting out. If you opt out, Disputes will be subject to the governing law and jurisdiction in Section 11.

10.5 Exceptions

Either party may seek emergency injunctive or other equitable relief from a court of competent jurisdiction to prevent imminent irreparable harm. Small claims court actions that qualify under applicable small claims rules are also excluded from mandatory arbitration.

10.6 Jury Trial Waiver

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, YOU AND SOVRA EACH KNOWINGLY AND IRREVOCABLY WAIVE ANY RIGHT TO TRIAL BY JURY IN ANY ACTION, PROCEEDING, OR COUNTERCLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE.

11. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of law principles. To the extent any Dispute is not subject to arbitration, you and Sovra each irrevocably consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Delaware.

12. Termination and Account Suspension

12.1 Termination by You

You may terminate your account at any time by using the account deletion feature in your account settings or by contacting privacy@sovra.ai. Termination of your account does not entitle you to a refund of any prepaid fees except as required by applicable law.

12.2 Termination by Sovra

Sovra reserves the right to suspend or terminate your account and access to the Service, with or without notice, for reasons including:

  • Violation of any provision of these Terms, including the third-party licensed data restrictions in Section 3A;
  • Conduct that Sovra reasonably believes is harmful to other users, third parties, or Sovra;
  • Fraudulent, illegal, or abusive use of the Service or the AI Assistant;
  • Failure to pay applicable fees;
  • Any activity that exposes Sovra to legal or regulatory liability.

12.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination: (a) your license to use the Service immediately terminates; (b) you must cease all use of the Service; (c) you must comply with the data deletion obligations in Section 3A.5; (d) all outstanding payment obligations survive termination; and (e) Sections 2.3, 3, 3A, 4.2–4.5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.3, and 13 survive termination indefinitely.

13. General Provisions

13.1 Modifications to These Terms

Sovra reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by posting a notice on the Service at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

13.2 Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Sovra with respect to the Service and supersede all prior understandings, agreements, representations, and warranties relating to the Service.

13.3 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, it will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or if not possible, severed. The remaining provisions continue in full force and effect.

13.4 Waiver

Sovra's failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not constitute a waiver of that right or provision in any future instance.

13.5 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without Sovra's prior written consent. Sovra may freely assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or substantially all of its assets, upon notice to you.

13.6 Force Majeure

Sovra will not be liable for any failure or delay in performance resulting from causes beyond its reasonable control, including acts of God, natural disasters, pandemics, government action, power failures, internet outages, or third-party data supplier failures.

13.7 Notices

Notices from Sovra to you will be delivered to the email address associated with your account. Notices from you to Sovra should be sent to legal@sovra.ai.

13.8 Export Controls

You agree not to export or transmit any information obtained through the Service in violation of applicable U.S. export control laws and regulations.
